So its been a full two years since I've even touched this blog. I've attempted maybe five other times to blog consistently on tumblr, but none of them made it past 5 posts, so I'll be rebooting this one again (as long as I can...!)
SO.
I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START EVEN WITH CAPS LOCK ON AUGH
WHAT DID I EVEN TALK ABOUT FOR ALL THOSE YEARS
WELL...............
Here's a recap of my life since the last post!
August 2011:
Lived with Mike at 415 for a month; had the fattest/best month of my life. A lot of Fallout New Vegas, George Foreman grilling, super weird/dirty housemates (with the weird mint eyedropper), driving in the MR2, drunken nights with the leftover AX alcohol (in which I discovered things about Koreans) and...realized that our relationship wasn't the average college 4 month quickie!
Sophomore year:
Lived with Rebecca and Katie, stole a ton of Katie's snacks with Rebecca (gomennasai), did FAST (which was a terrible event that I didn't even go to), gained a ton of weight (30 lbs woohoo yeah right), and walked back and forth from rape trail every single night to go see Mike at his apartment. Took a lot of photos still, primarily "fashion photos" of models, all of whom are successful models now, woo! My photos were pretty shitty though, and my natural shyness really came through during the shoots, resulting in awkward photos....whatever! We went to Mastro's with Jon for his 21st, and I ate until I threw up. All my photos on facebook are just of me eating.......... So I guess I didn't have the most productive year...but my classes were really cool!
Summer 2012:
Mike and I lived/travelled to Taiwan and China (Beijing) for the whole summer! Taiwan was pretty cool, we stayed in a hostel that was full of enthusiastic try-hards and older women that really shouldn't have been bragging about how often they went to the club to get laid... The food was great, the weather was horrendous, and the cockroaches were plentiful, but it was still a really fun trip. Beijing was tough; we stayed in my grandma's apartment and commuted to an internship where the expectations were completely unmatched. The boss was a great guy though and we decided to just take the rest of the time off to tour around, which really eased tensions. I had some really tough times emotionally in Beijing because of some hormonal flareups, but we got through them. THEN we went to the Star Wars convention in Florida (CELEBRATION), which was freaking amazing. We saw George Lucas twice, and watched some really great panels. We ate at Ponderosa steak house every day for breakfast (because of their $4 breakfast buffet and their little flag guy). We went to Disneyworld, where Magic Kingdom was a disappointment but Animal Kingdom was great. We went as a hurricane was touching down, so the park was literally abandoned but all the rides were still running, so we got to go on everything with no wait! Summer ended with a month back at home in norcal, which was one of the best months home I've had in a while.
Junior year: Lived with Mike chan the whole year! Started off in Roebling, which was the crappiest and smallest AND most expensive apartment I've ever lived in. There were cockroaches because two of our housemates didn't know how to keep the kitchen even remotely clean (an alfredo pasta was left in the damn pan for half a week...). We got to hear all the parties going on all around us, every single night. We slept on a twin sized blowup mattress, which gave us both back problems, until they both popped, and then we slept on a queen sized blowup, which gave us slightly less back problems. In winter, we moved to Franz's studio...which was by far the nicest apartment we've seen/lived in, but the landlord had serious yellow fever and was a stickler for cleanliness (hypocritically because he was pretty messy himself). Fun times though! Mike went to Nicaragua for a month, and during that time I had dinner with all the friends I had wanted to see, but had neglected to for the past year. I didn't take that many design classes! I just...did a ton of internships...I interned at CLICK model agency, which was doing what most would call "bitchwork"...faxing, copying, getting coffee....but I made gifs too...I didn't even get to shoot with the models that I wanted to shoot with! OH WELL. I took too many internships in spring; doing Paramount and One Lens at the same damn time...on top of school. NEVER AGAIN. I had no free time, and I spent more in gas money than what I was paid. All just resume building stuff I suppose... One Lens DID turn into a paid job, and Paramount DID offer me a better internship after....so I don't know why I'm still complaining. For Paramount, I folded a ton of shirts, made some data bases, entered in stuff for data bases, and did super basic things in photoshop...My biggest challenge was probably photoshopping some guy's face onto the anchorman poster....One Lens was making a ton of decks, and assisting on shoots. I learned that I don't really like being on set as much as I thought...the hours are horrendous, people's attitudes can become hard to deal with, and everything you've prepared for totally goes out of the window once filming starts. I am really glad I got to see the process though! One highlight though...I got to take photos of Ana Ivanovic for a YONEX (tennis/badminton) ad that's going to be published internationally and going to be on their products! I realized that I don't know nearly enough to do that, and that I really need to get my shit together. Basically what I learned from all my internships was, I need to get my shit together for everything if I want to even get hired... I need to become pro at photo, drawing (at least so I can make acceptable storyboards), video editing, vfx, and coding.... and graphic design I guess. I felt humbled by everyone, especially Alex and his friends at Mirada... BUT I also realized that many many people who aren't that smart can get seemingly high positions.....SO I guess it's all about working that balance.
Coming home for just a couple of days before going to Asia has been one of the best decisions I've made this summer. I actually wish I had one more week, but nothing's perfect. I got to see Tonya/Victoria/Nick, Rebecca, and Annika/Casey, which basically covered all my close friends here (except for Jeanine, who's stuck in NY). It was so nice to see familiar faces and to just catch up on each other's lives again.
Anyways, so tonight is the last night in the US until December...I'll be going to China, Thailand, Taiwan, and then Japan this summer! After working full time, I think I'm the most excited I've ever been for a trip (also because I'm going to finally go study abroad in Japan!) I'm going to take a ton of photos and actually keep this up (...if its not blocked in China and if I have internet access...) I really can't wait. I'm 95% done with packing, but I have to clean up/unpack all my things from my apartment from the living room...and I've been putting it off all afternoon.
Reading back on this, I've realized just how shitty my writing has become (or has always been...) I'll try harder next time, but this time was just a brain dump, and honestly I'm glad that I was even to type out all this, instead of just giving up yet again. I CAN KEEP THIS UP.
